Helping Our County’s Youth
The spirit of supporting the youth of Fort Bend County has always been a top priority for the Fort Bend County Fair Association. That is why it is no surprise that the board of directors are already planning on a bold move to help even more deserving students in 2014. The Board of Directors voted last month to increase the scholarship program. The Fort Bend County Fair will be awarding forty-two $3,000 dollar scholarships to deserving youth. This is an increase from 32 scholarships given in 2013. In addition the scholarships have increased from $2,000 dollars to $3,000 per scholarship.
The deadline to apply is Friday January 31st, 2014. To apply, you must be a US Citizen and a resident of Fort Bend County or zoned to a school in Fort Bend County. Candidates must be a high school senior and graduate by the spring semester of 2013.
“Every year during our fair we have over 50 committees and hundreds of Volunteers who work hard to help raise monies for these scholarships,” boasts Susan Sillavan, Fort Bend County Fair Manager. “The board of directors have made a commitment to award even more scholarships for 2014,” explains Sillavan.
Selection of the recipient will be based on scholastic standing, leadership, citizenship, need and Fair participation in 4-H and/or FFA or FCCLA, except for the open and vocational scholarships, which do not require participation in 4-H, FFA or FCCLA. When applying Candidates will be able to declare what type of scholarship that they will be going for. Restrictive, Non-Restrictive, Open, or Vocational are some of the scholarship classifications that candidates will have to choose from.
