Sharing Memories

If you are on facebook you may have noticed #TBT, Throw Back Thursday. It is a fun way to share memories from the days of yesterday. The Fort Bend County Fair has posted a few pictures from the past, including pictures from the 1930s to the 1980s.  “Every time we post a picture from our history we always get a huge response,” says Fair Manager, Susan Sillavan“Many of the pictures are of people who were involved in the fair then and still have families involved in the fair now,” adds Sillavan.

Throw back Thursdays include old photos, rodeo programs, newspaper articles and even a ticket stub. “We posted a picture of a ticket stub from October of 1984 when George Strait headlined our fair, it was a great memory for our fair and many of our facebook audience thought so too,” shares Sillavan.  “We are proud to be able to bring back a little nostalgia.”

Pictures of past parades, rodeo action, concerts or livestock winners have been posted. The pictures provide a look at the physical transition of the fairgrounds and also the progression of our fair. It’s a family album of sorts for the Fort Bend County Fair.

If you have any pictures of past Fort Bend County Fairs, be sure to share these great memories and post them to the fair’s facebook wall. We will share these pictures and hope to stir up some grand remembrances.

Here Come The Steers!
2014 Steer Tag-In!

The Steer Tag In for the 2014 Fort Bend County Fair was held on March 29th.   46 steers were tagged in and weighed on this crisp morning. Pauletta Klemstein, Steer show chairperson says, “Thank you to all my committee members who helped make this a fast and awesome tag in!” She adds, “We have some great kids to watch this year and we hope to see you all at the Steer Show!”

Tristan Boyd from Needville will be showing a steer this year. His steer is a bit frisky now but come fair time the duo will be ready for the show arena. Boyd says he has learned work ethics from raising his livestock projects. He shares, “Keeping them up, getting up in the morning and feeding, a lot of people don’t want to do it but at the end it’s all worth it.”

Good luck to all the kids who will be showing animals at our fair!
