It's A Tradition
Fort Bend County Fair Kicks Off
It's Fair time in Fort Bend County, and you know what that means: fried foods, family fun, and friends having a grand time. The 79th Annual Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo will run from September 25 to October 4 at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds. For some families, it is more than an event; it is a tradition, passed on from generation to generation, to attend and participate in the fair's 10-day run. "My family has passed down our love and support for the Fort Bend County Fair for generations. I love seeing my grandkids and the children of kids that grew up with my daughters being part of our Fair," says 2015 Fort Bend County Fair President, Margaret Kunz. "I look forward to a good year… a year that will exceed all expectations and bring all of Fort Bend County communities and youth out to enjoy a true County Fair experience," boasts Kunz.
To please and tantalize your taste buds, the Fair standards of funnel cakes and turkey legs will return for all to enjoy. Wine connoisseurs will be able to relish the taste of an assortment of selected wines in the Grapes on the Brazos wine room. This popular wine venue welcomes the novice wine lover to hone their wine selecting skills in a relaxed, no-pressure atmosphere.
There will be plenty of action for the thrill seekers at the Fair. Rodeo action will pack the newly renovated O.D. Tucker arena and the fan favorite, Mutton Bustin', will keep you cheering on the Lil' cowboys and cowgirls. A specialty act during the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) will involve daredevils on motorcycles and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
Grand Champions will be named in the livestock arenas. The show will include kids ranging from high school seniors who will be showing their livestock projects for the last time to younger kids getting their first Fair experience. The memories made in the show arenas will last a lifetime.
The 2015 entertainment lineup is blazing with talent! "It is a lineup that we are proud to present! It is filled with talented singer-songwriters and country music fans will get a full range of entertainment to enjoy," says Susan Sillavan Forbes, Fort Bend County Fair Manager. "These artists represent everything from Texas Music favorites to traditional country music icons, and we are excited for our Fairgoers."
The pride of the Golden Triangle, Tracy Byrd, will be bringing his chart-topping hits to the Fort Bend County Fair on Friday, October 2. Byrd's career soared in the 1990s, with hits such as "Holdin' Heaven," "Watermelon Crawl," and the wedding day staple and CMA Song of the Year "Keeper of the Stars." He remains on tour in select cities and venues, playing to his large fan base that continues to grow. He is thrilled to be playing at our Fair and says, "Tell the Fort Bend County Fairgoers to get ready to party, TBYRD style."
Charlie Robison will kick off the Fair on September 25. His iconic hit, "My Hometown," is just one of his hit songs that he will be performing. Other performers include California-native Jon Pardi, who has toured with Alan Jackson. He brings his talents for the first time to our Fair on September 26.
On Wednesday, September 30, the Fair welcomes the band Shinyribs. The Austin-based band's unique onstage presence will keep the crowd moving and the stage oozing with soul for the hips and rock and roll for the heart!
Go Tejano Day will be filled with traditional sounds of mariachi music to the popular norteño style. Headlining will be Grammy-nominated Duelo. On Saturday, October 3, the Lone Star icon Cory Morrow will bring his Texas-based music to the Fair. Get to know Morrow later in this newsletter as we go one-on-one with him. Hardcore country traditionalist Daryle Singletary will close out the 2015 Fort Bend County Fair on Sunday, October 4. Singletary says, "It is always a pleasure to play in Texas; it's one of the few states that still appreciates traditional country music. We love coming to Texas and playing!"
The 2014 Fair awarded forty-two scholarships, plus nine Queen scholarships totaling $160,930, to youth representing high schools from all over the county. The money awarded has doubled in just two years, thanks to the hard work and vision of the board of directors. Last year, the Jr. livestock auction surpassed the million-dollar mark. The total of the art auction, commercial heifer auction, freezer sale and the Jr. livestock auction totaled over $1,600,000.00 for the youth of our county. "We are hoping for another record-breaking year," says President Kunz. "We can do this, it is for our county's youth!"

One-on-One... Cory Morrow
Each month leading up to our Fair, we will go one-on-one with each of our 2015 entertainment headliners. This month we are featuring Cory Morrow.
He is a veteran of Texas Music and a fan favorite of the Fort Bend County Fair; Cory Morrow will be performing on Saturday night, October 3, 2015. Morrow is originally from Houston and is a Texas country singer-songwriter with a loyal fan base. He describes playing at the Fort Bend County Fair as a homecoming of sorts, “Absolutely! It's always good to come home and see familiar faces and catch up with family,” says Morrow.
His latest album recorded in Austin was released earlier this summer. “We have a great and uplifting new record out called ‘The Good Fight’. We are excited to share that record with the fans and to celebrate life, love and music with everyone there,” he boasts. As for his Saturday night concert he says, “You can expect a high-octane and fun-filled performance!”
Morrow is the father of three boys including twins that will be turning one-year-old next month. “Family is amazing! They are my top priority just under the Big Guy,” says Morrow. He adds, “The twins won't stop growing. Weird. We are truly blessed!” The entire Morrow family will be traveling to California in January. “It should be interesting and fun!”
Cory is currently working on a speaking tour and already writing for his next album. His music has evolved over the years, and he has been able to keep his fans faithful and satisfied. “Hopefully we can relate to anyone who takes the time to listen to our music or come to see a show. God has blessed us with a great opportunity, and we are just grateful to share His love with anyone and everyone we can,” shares Morrow.
Bleu Edmondson will be opening for Morrow. The night is primed to be packed with entertainment. Morrow recommends, “Bring your happy faces to the Fair! If not, we will have some you can borrow...Godspeed!”
