Susan Steps Away
Fair Manager Puts Family First

The motivation behind the Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo’s successes is a strong board and a fair industry icon named, Susan Sillavan Forbes. Sillavan Forbes has announced she will be stepping away from her Fair Manager duties effective April 1, 2016. “I am stepping away from the daily operations but this gives me more time with my family and my grandbabies. I love my fair family but I love being Gigi,” says Sillavan Forbes who is expecting another grandchild in the Fall. Susan has been Fair Manager since November 2008. Her time with the fair has seen attendance numbers soar and record-breaking auction totals. Last year, theTexas Association of Fairs and Events (TAF&E) named Sillavan Forbes as 2015 Manager/Professional of the Year.  This elusive honor is given to the person who demonstrated superior leadership and professional achievement from among a statewide market of fairs, festivals and events, including the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, RodeoHouston and Rodeo Austin.

Sillavan Forbes is a fair industry veteran with nearly 20 years of experience. Under her leadership at Fort Bend County Fair, several new events for fair-goers of all ages have been added including the Children’s Tractor Pull, Junior Royalty Pageant, Lil Wranglers BBQ Contest, the Go Tejano Committee, and many other events. During her tenure a Crawfish Boil, Boots & Buckles on The Bay Fishing Tournament and the Downtown Stomp (wine event in historic downtown Rosenberg) are events that have been implemented for the community to enjoy during the year and bring awareness to the Fair.
“I have had an incredible time with the Fort Bend County Fair. I look forward to making the transition as smooth as it can be. I know with the amazing staff, and the best volunteers, the 2016 Fair will be one for the history books,” boast Sillavan Forbes. Susan has no immediate plans except to occasionally consult with Fair officials during the transition period. The Fair’s 10-day run is September 23 to October 2, 2016. Good luck and best wishes to Susan!

Headliner Announced!
It's Tucker Time
The rumors are true, the cat is out of the bag, the deal is done, Texas born and country music modern day icon, Tanya Tucker, will be headlining at the 2016 Fort Bend County Fair on Friday, September 30, 2016. Tucker has a long list of hits that can be spontaneously belted-out on or off key by an allegiance of fans. The Texas tornado has paved a path in country music and beyond through an unprecedented level of success and continues her longevity today due to a natural, undeniable talent.

Tanya Tucker Headlines 2016 Fort Bend County Fair

In 1972 at the tender age of 13, Tanya released her first hit, “Delta Dawn”. The hit is a fan favorite that has survived as a cult classic and has bridged generations of country music fans.  It was 1974, when the wide-eyed teen appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine next to the headline, “Hi, I’m Tanya Tucker, I’m 15, You’re Gonna Hear from Me.”  Her prediction was found to be true, with a proven musical career that has spanned 4 decades.
Over the course of her career, Tucker has produced 23 Top 40 albums and 56 Top 40 singles, out of which 10 have reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Her best-known songs include “San Antonio Stroll”, “Two Sparrows In a Hurricane”, “Would You Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone)” and “Texas (When I Die)”.

Tanya Tucker is quite arguably one of country music’s finest entertainers. Like a fine wine Tucker has done nothing short of grow, mature, and consistently showcase her vocal talents with countless gold and platinum selling albums and beloved hit singles. When you have a smash hit at the age of 13, no one can predict exactly how long and substantial your career will turn out to be. Almost 44 years since the release of Delta Dawn, Tucker is still working hard, performing, creating music, and entertaining fans.

Through The Years...
A Look At The 80th

This year we celebrate 80 years of the Fort Bend County Fair.  This section will highlight a few of the memories made through the years.
The early 70s were the last years the Fair was held on the fairgrounds located on Highway 90. So many fair-goers have reflected on what they remember about their time spent at the original fairgrounds. Denise Marietta Nieto shared a picture recently that sparked a conversation on the fair’s Facebook page. She shared, “I ate hot dogs a lot of ‘em!”  Jeff Parr, for example remembers the rodeo concession stand that was called Emmet's Corral. He had this to say about Emmet’s Corral,“My mom deep fried thousands of corny dogs and I had more than a few! At the carnival, I had cotton candy and candy apples.”  From the days of the Emmet’s Corral to today’s Westmoreland Concessions the menu’s tasty treats have not changed much.

Chen Breaks Records

Lucy Chen is no stranger to the Fort Bend County Fair’s Art Auction. The 16-year-old Katy student has had her creations selected for our art auction in the past. Now, the Tompkins High School student has broken records with her recent oil painting. "The Entertainer” recently sold at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for a record breaking total of $220,000. Congratulations to Lucy, and her work being named Reserve Grand Champion at this year's HLS&R school art auction.

The Fort Bend County Fair’s Art Auction encourages students to submit work based on rodeo and western themes. Students’ artworks include drawings and mixed-media pieces. Our art auction is fortunate to have such talents displayed!
